Waleska, Georgia – In a matchup of future Appalachian Athletic Conference teams, the Spartanburg Methodist College softball team dropped a pair to host Reinhardt on Wednesday. The host Eagles won the two games by a 3-2 and 2-0 margin, respectively.
SMC falls to 6-6 on the season and Reinhardt raises its record to 5-3.
Game one saw Reinhardt score twice in the first inning and pick up the game-winning run in the fourth despite a late rally by the Pioneers, who scored a run each in the fifth and sixth inning. Despite the loss, SMC had seven hits compared to six hits for the Eagles. Alex Stuckey had two of the seven hits for the Pioneers. Kylie Freije had a game-best three hits to lead the Eagles.
Down 3-0 in the fifth, a two out RBI single by Emma Kennington drove in Saleena Rollins from second to cut into the Reinhardt lead. Then, in the sixth, three straight one out hits including a RBI double by Carson McCowan scored the second run of the game for the Pioneers. Reinhardt kept the Pioneers from tying the game with back-to-back strikeouts.
Game two saw the host Eagles plate two in the first inning as they held SMC off the scoreboard despite six hits en route to a 2-0 win. The two runs came on a one-out, two-run home run by Ansley Hight for Reinhardt.
Twice, in the third and seventh inning, SMC stranded a pair of base runners in the loss. Lydia Faulk had a pair of hits to lead the Pioneers. In the circle, SMC starter Bailey Kiser was the tough-luck loser as she allowed just two hits and struck out four in the loss.
Next, SMC will travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the Fastpitch Dreams Classic where they will play five non-conference games.
